In October 2019 the EU-funded project HSMonitor officially kicked off its work on finding innovative ICT-enabled monitoring solutions to improve health status and optimise hypertension care in Europe. The kick-off meeting was held on 10-11 October 2019 in Istanbul, Turkey. The participants discussed the overall project approach and the detailed planning of the first six months of the project.
HSMonitor is a pre-commercial procurement project co-funded by the European Union’s Horizon 2020 research and innovation programme under grant agreement No. 856698. Five healthcare providers (procurers) from four EU countries (Turkey, Italy, Croatia, Sweden) invest in procuring R&D services from the EU industry (suppliers) in competitive phases.
The procurers in the project – Ministry of Health of Turkey, project co-ordinator; Federico II University Hospital in Naples, Italy; Region Jämtland Härjedalen in Sweden; Health Care Center Zagreb in Croatia; Regione Lombardia in Milan, Italy – are supported by two research organisations – empirica Technology Research and TicBioMed – and several institutions that will support the five pilot sites in the project.
The solutions to be developed in HSMonitor will address several key aspects of hypertension care: early detection and prevention; healthier lifestyle, nutrition and supplementation; optimising drug therapy and improving treatment adherence; use of devices and remote monitoring; personalised decision support; interoperability and integration; quality and outcome reporting; patient-professional collaboration and co-ordination; training and education.
In the first months of the project, work will focus on elaborating the specifications for the envisaged solutions and on engaging relevant industry organisations as potential suppliers in the project.
